At five o'clock the group arrived at the arena with their Phoenix Tourbus. Roger was very obvious to us, he was
sitting downstairs. Robert's mug was standing in front of the window. He stayed 10 minutes longer on the bus than
all the others. At 5.30 they started the soundcheck, with "Where the birds always sing". First instrumental, then
came the very distinctive voice of Robert. Next a long version of "Boys don't cry", followed by "If only tonight
we could sleep" and a part of "Out of this world". At 6.10 the soundcheck was finished.

The support act was good, a mix of different styles. At 8.30 the waiting was over and the cure came on scene.
From the start on, the sound was perfect. "Out of this world" was played with a small camera above Jason's head.
"Watching me fall" was played in a long version, but it seemed much shorter thanks to the great light show.
"Open" was good, but it was nothing special. The same for "The loudest sound". "Pictures of you" was great.
The rest of the first part was also great, just "End" which didn't seem in place there. They should better replace
that one by another song (Bare for example?).

The encores were terrific. But I wished that they would have played something from the "Pornography" or
"Faith"-albums instead of the "Seventeen seconds" songs. But finally they made us forget their little mistake by
coming back and playing "Faith". Me and my friend Iwan hope that Paris shows or Strasbourg will be much
different.

What a show !! More than a concert, it was a monument. I started listening to The cure in 1985, but  I had become
disillusioned with their output during the last 5 years. Last night Robert and his friends showed me that they
hadn't lost their way at all.

The support band Ekova played very nice, strange "music of the world" and she had a lovely voice, like Dead
Can Dance or Cocteau Twins . Unfortunately, the crowd shouted after Robert, but everybody clapped at the end
of the short performance.

The show could start. The two first songs from the new album were perfect, very strong. Beautiful red and purple
lights draped the band during "Watching me fall". We were completely under the charm of a brilliant Robert,
on top form, screaming, shouting "I watching me fall" The event continued with the traditional 3 songs "Want",
"Fascination street" and "Open" with Roger at the guitar. Perry had a problem with the sound of his guitar so
the sound was not so great as the others nights but never mind… The crowd started to wish a happy birthday to
Robert who was very pleased and surprised. Everybody had hoped to hear a special song that they hadn't
played during this dream tour, but no special track for us. They continue with "the loudest sound" not so bad,
"pictures of you" the best version I ever heard and "maybe someday" always also great.

"Shake dog shake" was very strong, very aggressive. So wonderful. I love this song !!! "From the edge …" and
"In between days" were unaltered but as good as ever.

The backdrop for the songs was provided by a large screen where various images and  small films were projected.
During "Sinking" we could see Robert filmed by a small camera which was attached to his microphone. You can
imagine the atmosphere when Robert came very close to the microphone: "I'm sinking". What a song !
Unbelievable ! We arrived all too soon at  the end of the set with the same five songs: "Prayers for rain" and
a wonderful Robert's voice,  "100 years", also one of the best songs of the show, "End" with an awful bad sound
of the Simon bass, "39" not better than the album and "Bloodflowers" was perfect to finish the set.

No special track for the set, but for the encores …

We hoped for something original but the encores were the same as the preceding days. The version of "there is
no if " was very strange, not really nice. I preferred "Trust" with the two keyboards (Roger and Perry), and the
powerful Plainsong (where Robert came very close to the crowd) and the beautiful "Disintegration".

The second encore was better. Robert tried to announce a couple of songs from the "seventeen seconds" album"
in French but he couldn't. He pretended that he was too drunk to speak French (he always say that during French
concert).  "M" and "Play for today" were fantastic like the 80's concerts. Then, the traditional "Just like
heaven" before a short but magic "A Forest"

To conclude the show, there come back on stage for only one song but what song: "Faith". We were so happy but
in a same time a little bit sad, because we missed "Siamese twins", "All cats are grey" and "The drowning man"
We knew that they had played those songs during the tour but not in Lille, what a pity.

Wow! - The show in Lille suddenly made the one of Rotterdam look like a Retired Pot-Smokers Convention.

As soon as the light went off, an already over-excited crowd literally rushed as one man against the stage.

People started screaming as they realized the stage camera was filming the crowd and simply went mad as Robert
appeared.

The quality of the show matched this atmosphere and we were delighted for almost 3 hours with an exceptional
performance. It went from Pictures of You to Inbetween Days, from Shake Dog Shake to A Forest, a common
track on this tour, yet this time with a deafening bass. I’ve heard many gossips about the band being bored with
the tour and with each other: for those who miss glamorous smiles and dances, there’s The Spice Girls. All I saw
was a bunch of serene people, enjoying being there and playing together, and receiving a warm – rather, boiling -
support from the audience, who jumped and sang on almost every song.

No need to say great expectations for Paris!

The Zenith Arena was almost complete , only a few place in some corner left..
The show began at 8.30 pm by the classic Out Of This World. I am a musician and I can say that i have been
already impressed by the way they played : they played very very well . Simon was great and Robert's voice is
better than ever . Perry had some troubles in the begining with a lack of echoe with his guitar . The songs were
good , with particularly great moments : Watching me Fall was powerfully played and the lights were wonderful.
Robert said his first words with The Loudest Song , saying it's a sad song ....... but the fans didn't let him telling a
thing , they began to sing "Happy Birthday Robert" . Robert left the scene for a moment....
Pictures of You was a feeling moment. The first song wich made move the fans was Maybe Someday . Edge of the
Deep Green Sea was one of the greatest song , with an incerdible  atmosphere. With Sinking , we could have see
Robert's face while singing....good to The highlights on 100 Years bere one of the better , red and white one  ,
wich made me think about the Pornography photos ... 39 and BloofFlowers were ideal for close the 1st set .
They took a 3 minutes break and went with  an acoustic There Is No If ,  Robert was only playing guitar ,
hummmmmm , Great. Trust was very intense . With Plainsong , Robert  went near the fans , in each corner of the
scene and  they were mad about him !
The Second set was the the moment were fans were the most enjoying the concet, with songs that really made
them move. It finished by the Green Highlights of A forest , wich was a monumental song, an hymne for me,
really well played. I thought they wouldn't come for a 3rd set but they came again ..........and played Faith , in red
lights .....The fans were calm , no move , a big silence ..... very emotive !

It was a great concert ; they never played as well as with this Dream Tour. The atmosphere of this Tour is finally
Dark , it s radically opposed with the Swing Tour. Only true Cure fans can appreciate i think, but one of my friend
wich is not a Cure Fan was very impressed anyway. The only negative point is that they really always play the
same songs ,  there was no surprise for me yesterday , as i had read all the setlists they played before they came
in Lille .....I think too that Robert is a littel bit borried with Touring.....

As regards the music that is played before the gigs, it' not a song written by Roger as I've read on the
Babble/Descent mailing lists, it's Samuel Barber's Adagio (you can hear this masterpiece in two movies:
Elephant Man and Platoon).  The introduction of the show is fully emotional. You hear that music (rather sad)
while stars fill up the stage and a camera shows the audience from behind the drums, in a kind of black and
white/slow motion rendering).

A few comments regarding the songs: this was my first gig after the promo shows, and I have to say that
Bloodflowers songs sound even better now. Especially Watching me Fall. During Sinking, there was a very small
camera attached to Robert's microphone, and you could see his face approaching the camera everytime he sang
a line. As regards 100 years, I have to confess that  have not seen the band at ll. The visuals on the background
were so strange, strong, tortured and painful that the crowd was hypnotized.
There is no if is performed with drums, which is not the case on the album. As regards Faith, Robert tried to add
extra lyrics but apart from (one day, one day, one day), he didn't add much lyrics and opted for an extra guitar
solo. On that song, Perry had technical problems with his guitar.

On Plainsong, Robert, as usual, went back and forth from the left part of the stage to the right. He faked a dive
into the audience. The crowd sang "Happy birthday to you" many times.

To conclude, the setlist is "heavy", they play the main list in two hours and believe me, after two hours of these
songs you need to breathe. In Between Days and Just like Heaven were necessary to counterbalance the mood,
it was hardly bearable! As regards the general performance, it was musically perfect (although I don't like the
saturated bass sound at the beginning of End, but that's personal).

Now I wonder what they'll perform at Wembley and in Paris.

A very good concert, my first one of the dream tour.
Lille? A common dream tour evening but 3 hours long and an incredible setlist… yes, I know: “No Cats, no
Snake, no Twins or even no Pornography!!!” but wait until the 2 Paris shows…
The sound was excellent, probably their best ever. The videos during 100  years and Forest gave the songs
another dimension I think, and it was just brillant!
The second encore was really GOOD, at last Jason played it the right way (I mean correct speed). It took him 5
years to play kind of songs like Play for today or Forest correctly, he became a very good CURE drums player…
and I begin to forget Boris.
During this encore the band was incredibly happy and all of them played very good. Most of the show was serious
and full of “strong”songs (Fall-Open-Shake-Prayers-100-End-39-BF), so I thought they were much happier
and "drunk" (as Robert said himself) for the encores. But Faith came… I think Robert cried a bit at the end of
the song, Simon and Perry seemed to be worried about that. So, that's it. Next stop: Paris for -I hope- 2
unforgettable nights!!

The concert was excellent ! Some problem with the sound sometime during few songs, but a very nice set anyway.
2 excellents version of Shake dog Shake (Robert sang very lound and very well) and Sinking was also superb !

Plainsong had very nice light, green and blue on the whole hall and was lightinf the audience. Magic atmosphere.

An incredible version of Play for today : the audience was shouting the "refrain" lounder than Roger with his
keyboard ! !!! So incredible !

And finallly an excellent version of Faith, around 9 minutes, with extra words.

I came back from Lille tonight and I just say WOW, this show was amazingly good ! The music was wonderful
(they are a very good band), the light show is great, and the pesonnal experience was also great. Imagine a floor
in front of the stage without any seats and everybody dancing jumping shouting ...
After the first part (Ekova, that sounded a bit like Cocteau Twins), the intro began at 8:30 (this intro is the
adaggio of Barber, a classical piece that is on the Platoon soundtrack). After that:
OutOfThisWorld
WatchingMeFall
Want
FascinationStreet (with projection on the screens behind the stage of lights of peep show)
Open (Roger with a guitar !)
TheLoudestSound (Robert tried to speak french "this is ... nouveau ... chanson", we all began to sing
"HappyBirthday", nice version of this song)
PicturesOfYou (the audience went mad)
MaybeSomeday
ShakeDogShake (GREAT version !)
FromTheEdgeOfTheDeppeGreenSea
InBetweenDays (well, let's forget this one)
Sinking (also great version with a fish-eye camera just aside Robert's mic)
PrayersForRain (as usual)
100Years (black & white projections behind the stage of a cemetery, of a high building ...)
End (perhaps not the better song of the set)
39
Bloodflowers
1st encore
ThereIsNoIf (with this artificial rythm, it was rest for Jason, Simon with Robert's 6 string bass to do the melody)
Trust
Plainsong (Simon and Perry waiting to play the guitar part, Robert wandering and making like if he would jump in
  the audeince !)
Disintigretion (wow)
2nd encore
M
PlayForToday
JustLikeHeaven
AForest
3rd encore
Faith (all the lights red, another great version)

Simon was very static, always looking at a point far above our heads, very serious, just making a little sign with
the hand during the intro of Trust. Robert was always smiling (the audience was always shouting Ro-Bert-Ro-
Bert). Sometimes Roger sometimes dreamed and played Plainsong with the eyes shut. Perry and Jason are really
good musicians !
This is it. I was a bit disappointed not to hear SiameseTwins nor TheKiss but maybe at Oberhausen (I go back
next week) ...

By the way, we didn't see any problems related to troubles or riot linked to the car-stealing man who was shut down by the police !

Comments by Fabrice

Le concert était excellent , trois heures de live très intense avec un gros son de guitares, de basse batterie like
the wish tour Seul ombre au tableau , Simon et Roger who seems to be  very very sad, according to me there is
a big problem with  us.  A good moment when the crowd say : Happy birthday to Robert .An other good moment
the last song FAITH .

Review By Gianfry

Yesterday the guys didn't look in such a great shape.
The concert was good, as any Cure concert is, since we love seeing them live, of course, but some of the magic
that i felt in other concerts was just missing. I saw the Brussels Album Lanch Show and it was so special to
everybody. Then they played with passion and you could really feel this trhought each song. Yesterday something
was just missing.
The second half of the main setlist went lower and lower with Robert singing miserable. It is hard for me to say
that as mush as for you to read it. "End" sounded great on the Wish tour, while here doesn't stand anywhere.
"Wathing me fall" and "100 Years" very played much more powerfully on the Brussels Show,  where they were
impressive.Yesterday the only impressive thing was the staring look of Simon. It would stare some point of the
crowd, very far with an expression that i'll never forget. People in the first rows were often turning to see what
the hell was staring at,  that he didn't even seem to be "there".I think somebody asked him at a point, but he
didn't understand the question and went to Perry to ask him to try to understand what that person was saying.
This, of course while they were playing. He never smiled. People were just trying to get him back to "there"
and breaking that staring by shaking they arms in front of him, but nothing seemed to work.
Robert didn't speak that much. And not to always compare to the Brussels show, he wasn't so comfortable as
he was there. I thought that maybe Robert and Simon fought or something, because they didn't exchange a
word or even look at each other.
Even during the intro part of "Trust" (or it could be "From the edge", sorry not to be sure) when Robert usually
stand in front of Simon, he just went to Roger and Simon looked annoyed by that. Of course all of this might be
my personal impressions. But i often get the point on such things. I was expecting a great lights show such as in
the Wish Tour or Swing Tour but instead it was very ordinary. There are some nice video playing on certain
songs. I must say that Perry did a great job. He really progreassed a lot on the instrument.
High points of the main setlist were "Inbetween Days", where everybody slim-danced, and "Shake dog shake".
I don't understand why they don't includ the so beautiful "Last day of summer" anymore in the setlist.
Encores were very good also. Especially the second one (M, Play for today, Just like heaven, A forest) and
during  it we danced like i never did at any concert before for each of the above mentioned songs.
Then atmosphere was very very high and loud. Last encore feautured the always beautiful and emotional "Faith",
perfect for closing. After years, Robert always seems emotional on that one.
One last point.I love the Cure. I just hate people who love the Cure (?!). It starts to be emarrassing me to go at
Cure concert and still fall on so many Robert Smith alikes.Do you really guys need to dress and even act like him
(i saw a Robert freak who was seatted in the same position that Robert does on many pictures) to appriciate their
music? Those freaks are not at my eyes any Cure fans at last. If they were, they just would know how much their
"hero" hates that stupid and useless miming (?). hhhmmm....just make me laugh...trying to make the point where
there is no point to make.

Review by Yan

Well, you can see that there were no surprises on the setlist of Lille. On the tracklist , there were mentionned
"Siamese Twins", "All Cats Are Grey" and "Pornography" (maybe they played them in Paris?).

But it's my first Cure's show of this dream tour and that was great. With your exellent website I had to be able to
have an idea of what would be the show (lights,...) and really it's very good, very professionnal. "One Hundred
Years" was perfect, powerfull.

They started to 8.30 PM after a short show of Ekova. We saw Robert watched all this concert on the left of the
scene and he applauded the band to the end. That was hard for the singer (a lady) and she said that she was a
great fan of The Cure to calm audience which wait for...

Well. At 8.30 PM we heard the prologue. It's a classical track which appears on "Platoon" soundtrack, very
beautiful, and was joined by blue light with a video behind the drums. Well on the video we saw ... us! And then...

Beautiful start. The crowd was very mad! It's always the case in France, especially in Lille. I was in front of
Robert on the first line, standing hardly to the barrier (during 3 hours) and that was crazy! Follow "Watching Me
Fall". Powerfull. Great sing. The start of "Want" and again the audience went mad during three songs!
And "The Loudest Sound". A moment of peace. "Pictures Of You" was a surprise. I waited for "The Kiss" or
"The Snakepit". Beautiful lights. "Maybe Someday" so cool and then "Shake Dog Shake". Powerfull. Jason is
now great. "Edge" so strong, the crowd was mad. "In Between Days", the crowd pushed and danced, so hard for
me! Perfect version. The "Sinking" with the camera attached on the Robert's mike and his image on the video
behind the drums. Emotion.Robert sang "Prayers For Rain" perfectly not like 1996 and he did his scream during
15 secondes nearly. Great. The intro was bizzare. "100 years", then the crowd went mad, mad, mad with all the
photos on the screen of ruins or dead people.

"End" , "39" and "Bloodflowers" without blank with great enchainment by Jason. "Bloodflowers" was very
emotionnal. A great calm for the first encore. On "Plainsong" Robert came in front of the audience on the left
and the right of the scene, smiling. But the second was hardly. The crowd was very crazy. "A Forest" was short
but strong. And then "Faith". Short version. The first time I heard it during a concert. Wonderful end.

So what will they play in London or Paris. I hope new tracks.

An other thing: the band, except Robert was not very happy, especially Simon and Perry. Simon didn't talk to
Robert or others members during the concert and didn't move a lot. He seemed to be angry (there were problems
with his bass) even at the start of the show.
During "Trust" when he not played he looked at the audience without a smile. Perry was the same. Maybe
there were some problems on the band and that's for why they don't  play some other songs. I hope not. But
Robert was so happy, he looked at us often and smiling when he saw all his fans. All the crowd sang for him an
happy birthday.

Well now it's Paris. But I will sit, I want to see all the lights and videos.
