June 30th

  • Just sent this to the Denver ticket list:

  • Quick tip for anyone looking for single tickets.
At the TM drop down windows, choose 1 for TICKET, then choose These seats are WILL CALL only!
There are single seats in the third, fifth and sixth rows available at the time I'm writing this.

  • What's happening today?

  • Philadelphia - Tickets for the Wachovia Spectrum show go on sale today at 10am (eastern) through Comcast Tix. Ticket prices are $65 for Floor and Lower, $50 for middle and $40 for Upper. Gold Floor & Gold Lower are said to be for American Express Gold card users only. In the NYC pre-sale, Ticketmaster offered better seats to Gold card users. I'm guessing it will be the same here, so use your AMEX Gold card if you can.

Denver - Tickets for the Red Rocks show go on sale today at 10am (mountain) through Ticketmaster. Ticket prices are $65 for Reserved rows #2-25, $50 for Reserved rows #26-47, $35 for General Admission rows #48-69. Rows #1 & 70 are for handicapped seating.
Rows 1-6 are WILL CALL only and only the card holder can pick up the tickets.

    Good Luck!

  • Even when we know, we don't really know. As several e-mails have pointed out, there's a contradiction in the pre-sale info posted by Geffen:

  • New album delayed again until late Oct. or Nov., South American tour pushed back to 2008 behind Europe:

I THINK THE ALBUM WILL BE A 'LIMITED EDITION' DOUBLE...

    SO
LATE OCTOBER/NOVEMBER NEEDS TO BE FREE FOR ALBUM RELATED SURPRISE STUFF...

WHICH MEANS SOUTH AMERICA HAS BEEN JOSTLED TO THE BACK OF THE QUEUE BEHIND EUROPE...

  • What's happening today?

  • Tickets - No tickets are listed as going on sale today, but I don't trust Ticketmaster (or Comcast Tix in Philly). If there are going to be pre-sales for the shows going on sale saturday (Philadelphia, Denver), today would be the day. If you are going to any of those shows, I would play it safe and check TM and Comcast Tix around 8 or 9am for any word of a pre-sale. If not, just relax and get ready for tomorrow. : )
As I'm typing this, Comcast sent out their official e-mail once again confirming the Philly on sale date for saturday, with no mention of a pre-sale.

Shows on sale - The only shows that have gone on sale are NYC and Montreal. No other shows have tickets for sale. You have NOT missed anything. Those websites you see with all sorts of tickets for sale are ticket scalpers/brokers. DO NOT GET RIPPED OFF. DO NOT BUY FROM THEM.

  • The Courier Post Online has an article about the Philadelphia show:

  • Cure tickets on sale Sat. in Phila.

    Friday, June 29, 2007

The Cure, one of the most revered British bands of the last 25 years, comes to the Wachovia Spectrum in Philadelphia at 7 p.m. Sept. 21.

Tickets at $40, $50 and $65 go on sale at 10 a.m. Saturday online at www.ComcastTIX.com, by calling (800) 298-4200 and at the Wachovia Complex Box Office.

Led by singer/guitarist Robert Smith, the Cure lineup includes longtime members bass player Simon Gallup, drummer Jason Cooper and, back in the band for a third time, guitarist Porl Thompson.

The Cure was formed in southern England in 1976 as Easy Cure. In 1978 the "Easy" was dropped. In May 1979, the debut album "Three Imaginary Boys" was released to great acclaim.

  • The Denver Post has an article about the new album and the Red Rocks show:

  • The Cure still shows vital signs
    By John Wenzel
    Denver Post Staff Writer
Article Last Updated: 06/28/2007 11:04:22 PM MDT

The Cure could easily rest on its laurels and growing legacy, but the U.K. pop-rock band - often mis-identified as goth by overzealous critics - continues to tour and release new music.

In fact, the Cure is now finishing its 13th studio album for a fall release, its first since 2004's self-titled comeback. Even if lead singer Robert Smith's makeup-smeared face is more sallow than it used to be, the band still sounds surprisingly vital, particularly when so many of its peers have (or should have) dropped off the radar.

That should make the Cure's date at Red Rocks Amphitheatre a treat for anyone who jammed out to "Just Like Heaven" or "Boys Don't Cry" in high school (come on, I know you did). Tickets for the Oct. 2 concert with 65daysofstatic are on sale at 10 a.m. Saturday. ($35-$65, Ticketmaster)

  • Curespotting:

  • "The Cure is mentioned in Die Hard 4 as a band from 20 years ago. How could they be so wrong? :) "

    Update:
"Just wanted you to know I saw Die Hard 4: "Live Free or Die Hard" today and that there is a scene where John McClain's hacker sidekick asks him when was the last time he listened to the radio and if he listened to the Cure in the 80's. Not a bad film either."

    (Thanks Bret and DSC)

"In the radiostation Reporte 98.5 FM they have a sports show Reporte Deportivo and since few weeks ago in their commercial breaks they played
a lot of CURE songs and even the host say The CURE is one their favorites bands.

In the cable program In-d the male host Chuck Pereda said the 3 people that he has met and admire the most are Robert Smith, Damon Albarn and
    Morrissey."

    (Thanks Jorge)

  • MTV Asia has an article about the new album:

  • The Cure Announce 13th Studio Album
    June 28, 2007
The Cure -- lead singer/guitarist Robert Smith, bass player Simon Gallup, drummer Jason Cooper, and guitarist Porl Thompson -- have announced that they will be releasing their 13th studio album.

After a series of re-released albums and Festival 2005, a 155-minute DVD that consists of 30 live songs filmed by their fans, crew and "on-the-night-big-screen-cameras" last November, The Cure are already in the process of putting their finishing touches to the as-yet-titled album.

According to the official press release, the album has been recorded in the U.K. with Robert Smith on the producing helm and will be released on Suretone/Geffen this fall.

Other than the new album, The Cure are also going on an headlining tour in the U.S. that kicks off on September 13 in Tampa, Florida. The group has also previously announced their Australasian tour a couple of months back, with two dates in Hong Kong and Singapore.

Good luck to everyone trying to get tickets! And don't panic if you don't get tickets today, there should be plenty left for the regular on-sale tomorrow.

  • Curespotting:

  • "While all the American and Australian fans are getting excited about tour dates, this may perk up the ears of the Europeans. Just heard a
track by the (German I think) band Digitalism on BBC 6 Music, which featured a whacking big sample of 'Fire In Cairo'. Funnily enough, it's
called 'Digitalism In Cairo', and it's on their album 'Idealism'."

    (Thanks Dandyboy)

"A bizarre Cure Spotting – On BBC Radio 5 Live (UK) last night John McEnroe was asked about the prize money being the same for men & women
at Wimbledon despite the ladies only playing 3 sets.  He replied that if you pay to go & see a band; The Pretenders might play for 1 hour, but
The Cure will play for 2 but they don’t charge you more for it!

3 hours would be nearer the mark.."

  • NYC pre-sale update:

  • I don't know if this will really be needed (or wanted) this time around, but in case it helps someone out, the Cure Ticket Alert system is back. Not here for the Dream and Curiosa tours, or just forgot what the alert system is? Because I'm lazy (and still have to set up the lists), I'll just copy the explanation from the Curiosa alerts:

  • "I have given in and will revive the Cure Ticket Alert mailing list. For those of you who weren't here for the Dream Tour, this is a private mailing list I set up to send out ticket alerts (pre-sale info, on sale dates, etc) as soon as I get the info. All info will still be posted here, but this saves you the trouble of checking COF every hour to see if there's any ticket info yet. Unlike the Dream Tour alerts, which were an "all in one" alert, I'm breaking it up into individual lists for each city on the Curiosa tour this time.
So if you would like to be included, just e-mail me and let me know which city or cities you want the info for, and I'll add you to the list."

This is only for the US and Canadian shows. Thanks and good luck getting tickets!

And now back to the music. Damn, I love the new Interpol album!  'Our Love To Admire' is out on July 4th in Japan, July 9th in Europe and July 10th in North America (and of course, leaked to the internet on June 21st).

    June 22nd

  • Billboard has a story about the North American tour, and says tickets start going on sale June 28th:

  • The Cure Touring North America, Wrapping New CD
    June 22, 2007, 11:55 AM ET
    Jonathan Cohen, N.Y.

With a new Suretone/Geffen album arriving sometime this fall, the Cure will hit the Road in North America for month-long tour beginning Sept. 13 in Tampa, Fla. Tickets begin going on sale June 28. 65 Days Of Static will open.

The Cure's present lineup is lead singer/guitarist Robert Smith, bassist Simon Gallup, drummer Jason Cooper and guitarist Porl Thompson. That incarnation is featured on the recent DVD "Festival 2005," taped during a run of summer 2005 European festivals.

The as-yet-untitled new album is the follow-up to a 2004 self-titled effort, which debuted at No. 7 on The Billboard 200.

Update: Live Daily, Yahoo, Pitchfork, Pollstar and CMJ also have stories about the tour.

  • Robert also confirmed that Auckland will be the only show in New Zealand.

  • Robert interviewed for "Shoegazers" documentary. Here's the story from Harp Magazine:

  • Shoegaze Documentary “Beautiful Noise” in the Works
    Fred Mills
    June 19, 2007

With nearly two years of filming under his belt, filmmaker Eric Green of L.A.-based Hypnagogia Films is nearing completion of his documentary chronicling the 1985-91 shoegaze movement of Great Britain. Titled Beautiful Noise, it’s about the influence of the Cocteau Twins, Jesus & Mary Chain and My Bloody Valentine and the subsequent rise of outfits such as Ride, Curve, Slowdive, Lush, Chapterhouse, Swervedriver, Pale Saints and Boo Radleys, as well as more ambient-inclined and experimental artists like Flying Saucer Attack, AR Kane and Seefeel.

According to Hypnagogia, these stories will be told through contemporary interviews and via archival concert footage, outlining how, for the most part, the groups “resisted having a marketable image and sound, and how their individuality, while sabotaging their mainstream commercial appeal, eventually led to an indelible impact on modern music.”

Among the personalities interviewed for the film: Robin Guthrie and Simon Raymonde (Cocteau Twins), Jim Reid and Bobby Gillespie (Jesus & Mary Chain), Kevin Shields (My Bloody Valentine), Dave Pearce (Flying Saucer Attack), Mark Gardener (Ride), Neil Halstead (Slowdive), Martin Carr (Boo Radleys), Emma Anderson (Lush), Alan Moulder, Alan McGee, Wayne Coyne, Trent Reznor, Billy Corgan and Robert Smith.

The film company adds that the documentary is a labor of love—“a DIY, passion project.” Aficionados of the shoegaze scene would no doubt agree, and suggest that such a welcome project is long overdue.

  • Curespotting:

  • "In France, on TF1 tv program '50 minutes inside' (a stupid 'people' magazine), there was a report about the 'anniversary' of the death of the absolutely magnificent Grace Kelly, and for about 30 seconds 'plainsong' was used as background music.

And another little curespotting from french tv, on M6 channel program  'D&CO' (on re-decorating your house -badly-), this sunday they used a few seconds of 'boys don't cry' as background music."

"UK band Babyshambles have just recorded their second album. Bassist Drew McConnell kept a blog of each days activities.

"Pictures of You was played as a segway between stories on NPR's Marketplace. Sounded like an extended version of the track. Very Cool!"

    Update:
"Just a funny coda to the story about NPR and Pictures of You. I heard it driving home from work. Found it amusing that it was the segue for a story about how Kodak was losing profit from lack of sales of film rolls... making way for the statement.... Not so many Pictures of You around lately are there? Had to giggle."

    IN FACT
GEFFEN DON'T PUT ANY MONEY UP FOR ANY CURE TOUR ANYWHERE...

    AN INSIGHT?
IF WE WANT TO PLAY NORTH AND SOUTH AMERICA THROUGH SEPTEMBER INTO NOVEMBER WE END UP IN EUROPE PLAYING THE WRONG HALLS IN THE WRONG CITIES ON A DARTBOARD ROUTING THROUGH DECEMBER BECAUSE ALL THE ICE SHOWS AND PRE-CHRISTMAS FLIMFLAM HAVE THE BEST CHOICE OF VENUES LOCKED UP FOR A YEAR IN ADVANCE...

WE CHOOSE TO PICK THE DATES AND VENUES WE WANT TO CREATE A PERFECT EUROPEAN CURE TOUR - AND THAT HAPPENS IN SPRING

  • Here's an article from The West Australian promoting the Perth show:

  • Three-hour Cure set to rock Perth
    14th June 2007, 6:00 WST

Fans of English gothic hit-machine The Cure will be happy for a change. The band will perform a marathon three-hour concert at Challenge Stadium on August 4 to kick off their first Australian visit in seven years.

The Cure have plenty to draw on, having released 12 albums in their 30-year history and scoring hits with such goth-pop favourites as In Between Days, Close to Me, Let’s Go to Bed, The Lovecats, Boys Don’t Cry and Just Like Heaven. And the band are apparently recording their 13th studio album.

Frontman Robert Smith is joined in the current incarnation of The Cure by guitarist Porl Thompson and bassist Simon Gallup, who first played with the band in the late 70s, and drummer Jason Cooper, who joined in the mid-90s.

Promoter Michael Coppel said yesterday that there will be not be a support act for the concert, billed as A Night with the Cure, and Smith and his chums will be onstage from 7.45pm. Tickets go on sale June 22 from Ticketmaster outlets.

  • And more from New Zealand:

  • "TV3 has a video link to a segment they did interviewing myself and the other petition organiser Gordon, in case anyone is interested, we were also on Radio Live this morning, which is a nationally broadcast radio station, afterwards loads of people rang up with Cure stories and reflections, proving the Cure have a large fanbase here in NZ."

  • Stuff has a story about the success of the New Zealand petition.

  • Cure covers:

  • "As a Cure fansite owner, we thought you might be interested in hearing that Seafood have just released a download-only cover of ‘Lovesong’. Seafood’s singer/guitarist David Line said “We’ve often been compared to The Cure and we thought Lovesong sounded like a Seafood song so it was the perfect choice to cover”. The single came out yesterday, and was BBC 6Music’s breakfast show ‘single of the week’ a couple of weeks ago.

You can buy the single here: http://www.7digital.com/stores/productDetail.aspx?shop=34&product=105174&sid=1533367

The band are also doing a small UK tour to coincide with the release of the tracks. Full details of where they’re playing and when can be found on the band’s website - http://www.seafood.uk.com

Cheers, and thanks for your time!

"Niyaz covered Lovesong for Backspin: A Six Degrees 10 Year Anniversary Project.

    Very spacy arrangement. http://sixdegreesrecords.com/compilations.php?upc=657036113220

It was in heavy rotation in the AMC Theaters CinemaSounds for a couple of months."

  • Curespotting:

  • "The Cure keep popping up their heads in the weirdest of places... They get mentionned twice in Machine Head's biography on their official site
( www.machinehead1.com ), as an influence, and an example. Here are the relevant passages:

"Flynn’s confessions on the songs "Five" and "The Burning Red" were lyrical scars torn wide open, revealing dark truths that he had yet to
even share with many of his closest friends. This heightened lyrical heft lent itself to even greater musical experimentation, with the band
incorporating more eccentric influences such as The Cure, and the guitar psychedelics of Jimi Hendrix into their healthy dose of metal."

"All of our musical heroes have made monumental records that didn’t necessarily go with the evolution of their band; a perfect example would
be The Cure from /Pornography/ to /Disintegration/, or Metallica from /Kill ‘em All/ to /Master of Puppets/. Those bands destroyed their
    drawing board and reconstructed it.”"

And The Cure was also mentionned on p.118 in April 2007's issue of Mix Magazine, in a review of The Cinematics' "A Strange Education" album."

    (Thanks Laurent)

  • Cure cover:

  • "In France, on wednseday, on France Inter radio, in the program 'Le Fou Du Roi', the band Sugarbeans, from Canada, played one of they track live and also covered 'boys don't cry'. Nothing extraordinary but nice nonetheless."

    (Thanks Fabien G.)

  • Curespotting:

  • "You may already be aware of this but the freeview channel (in the UK) UKTV History has been running an advert for a forthcoming nature
programme, 'Tropical Season', with what is clearly a version of A Forest as the soundtrack. But who it is by I don't know...there are no vocals (or if there are it doesn't get that far in) and it has a sort of world music/african sound to it, very rhythmic.  If anyone else does know who it is I'd be interested to know as it is driving me nuts."

    Update:
"I think it is Nouvelle Vague that made that cover."

    (Thanks Darren, Mauro and Johan)

"Just wanted to tell you that today, June 9th 2007, 00:11 CET, German TV station RTL did use "Just like heaven" as background music for a news feature on Germany's hottest day in 2007 (until now). Could have been some kind of remix, as in the beginning only drums could be heard."

  • "just a little curespotting from french tv channel M6.  During the night of tuesday 5th to wednesday 6th, on the talk show 'T'empeche tout le monde de dormir', they did a little hommage to a french actor, Jean-Claude Brially, who died just a few days ago and who came a few times as guest of this program.  As they replayed a few images from previous shows with him, 10-15 seconds of the intro of 'just like heaven' where used as background music."
